With the new Government appointed, a message has been sent from NHS Chief Executive, Amanda Pritchard regarding the governments first step in working with the NHS.
It has been announced that Lord Ara Darzi, his team, and staff in the Department of Health and Social Care are going to be carrying out a comprehensive analysis of the issues facing the NHS right now and the challenges that they are up against.
From this assessment, a 10-year plan will be created and led by Sally Warren, Director of Policy at the King’s Fund. For the plan, Lord Darzi’s team will consult staff, patients, experts and the public on the best solutions and practices to help the NHS.
Amanda stated:
“Plans for how NHS staff and leaders will be able to contribute to both phases of this work are being developed now, but with a clear expectation that they both reflect current experience, and draw on solutions and best practice from staff, patients, the public and other experts.
The audit, and the development of the 10 year plan, will of course take time. For now our task as the NHS remains as per our plans for the year, including – as discordant as it seems ahead of schools breaking up for summer – thinking and preparing now for winter.”
Amanda also stated that informal talks have resumed between the Government and the Junior Doctors Committee, which provided a positive step forward to the plans for the rest of the year, including prioritising elective recovery.
At Health Now, we feel that Lord Darzi’s assessment and subsequent plan is a very encouraging step forward and will make a huge difference in resolving longstanding NHS issues and improve health for all.
